Notice of Environment Act Proposal

Manitoba Conservation and Climate has received a proposal pursuant to The Environment Act regarding the following operation and invites public participation in the review process:

BLUMENGART COLONY FARMS LTD. – BLUMENGART COLONY IRRIGATION PROJECT - FILE: 6054.00

An Environment Act Proposal has been filed by Blumengart Colony Farms Ltd. for the construction and operation of an irrigation project in the Municipality of Rhineland south of Plum Coulee. An off-channel reservoir would be constructed in NW 15-2-3W, to be filled from the Rosenheim Drain during the spring runoff period each year, with the stored water used for the irrigation of potatoes. The project would include up to 220 hectares of irrigation annually in rotation, with irrigation only in the potato years of the rotation. The project could also be operated using water by agreement from existing reservoirs in the area. Construction of the new reservoir is anticipated for the late summer/fall of 2020.

L’entreprise Blumengart Colony Farms Ltd a présenté un projet en vertu de la Loi sur l’environnement pour la construction et l’exploitation d’un ouvrage d’irrigation dans la municipalité de Rhineland, au sud de Plum Coulee. L’entreprise souhaite construire un réservoir hors canal au lieu-dit N.-O. 15-2-3 O.M.P., qui serait rempli à partir du drain de Rosenheim pendant la période de ruissellement du printemps tous les ans, avec l’eau stockée utilisée pour l’irrigation des pommes de terre. L’ouvrage permettrait d’irriguer jusqu’à 220 hectares par an selon la rotation des cultures, l’irrigation se faisant uniquement les années où les pommes de terre sont cultivées. L’ouvrage pourrait également être exploité au moyen d’eau provenant de réservoirs existants dans la région, selon des ententes éventuelles. La construction du nouveau réservoir est prévue à la fin de l’été ou à l’automne 2020.
